SARAJEVO, 25 July (Hina) - Representatives of international
organisations in charge of implementing the peace agreement in
Bosnia-Herzegovina on Thursday expressed concern about the current
situation in Mostar. Speaking at a press conference in Sarajevo,
they said that tensions in the city, caused by the latest political
crisis, have increased.
Carl Bildt was seriously concerned about the latest
developments in Mostar, Bildt's spokesman Michael McLay said.
Bildt's deputy Michael Steiner met in Mostar yesterday with
the Croat and Muslim representatives to discuss the current
situation in the city.
Spokesman McLay stated that it was possible to find a solution
if the two sides showed some good will.
The purpose of the proposal presented to the Mostar Croats and
Muslims by Michael Steiner was contained in three items - the
European Union has to remain in Mostar, the mayor should be a
Croat, and the election results have to be unconditionally
observed.
Bildt's spokesman said his office held that Zagreb had to make
the Mostar Croats behave reasonably.
NATO troops deployed in Mostar have intensified their patrols
with the aim of lessening tensions in the city.
