SARAJEVO, July 6 (Hina) - The dispute about civilian command of the
Bosnian Federation armed forces which was the cause of postponement
of passing the federal Defense Law , was resolved so that during
the next three months the armed forces would be under the joint
command of the president of the Bosnian Federation Kresimir Zubak
and president of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina Alija
Izetbegovic, Bosnian Federation Defense Minister Vladimir Soljic
said in Sarajevo on Saturday.
"This solution is satisfactory for now," Soljic said, adding
that in three months the issue of civilian command would be
resolved.
The compromise was agreed on by Zubak and Izetbegovic on
Friday.
The mediator of the talks was the U.S. special envoy for
military issues James Pardew.
Passing of the federal defense Law is the condition for the
beginning of the implementation of the American programme of
equipping and training of the armed forces of the Bosnian
Federation (the Croatian Defense Council HVO and the army of
Bosnia-Herzegovina).
The Bosnian Federation Parliament is to convene for a session
next week when the defense law is expected to be adopted.
