IFOR CANNOT CONFIRM THAT KARADZIC AND MLADIC ARE IN BELGRADE

SARAJEVO, 29 May (Hina) - IFOR intelligence officers could not confirm that Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic were in Belgrade and that they met Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, IFOR Headquarters spokesman in Sarajevo Marc van Dyke said on Wednesday. There were no political decisions which would change the already set duties of NATO members in Bosnia-Herzegovina as regards the arrest of war criminals. 'Military services are on the ground informing the politicians on what could be done. The process is under way, but so far there are no signs of political readiness to change obligations of IFOR envisaged by the Dayton peace agreement and the Memorandum on cooperation with The Hague War Crimes Tribunal', Van Dyke said, recalling that war crime suspects would be arrested if 'circumstances allow it'. Van Dyke refuted unconfirmed information that NATO soldiers tried to surround Radovan Karadzic while he was on his way to Trebinje two weeks ago and that Karadzic managed to escape to Montenegro.
