ZAGREB, May 2 (Hina) - The Zagreb-Belgrade motorway will be opened
on Tuesday, May 7, the UN Transitional Administrator in the
occupied area of eastern Croatia, US General Jacques Klein,
announced in Zagreb on Thursday evening after talks with Croatian
President Franjo Tudjman.
Klein expressed hope that the demilitarization of Eastern
Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srijem would begin soon. Maybe as
early as May 15 but not later than June 1, he said, adding that the
process should be completed on July 1.
Klein said that demilitarization was a key to the whole
process after which economic and trade initiatives could be
launched.
Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Kostovic, who also
participated in the talks, said that Klein would present his
proposal for the dynamics of peaceful reintegration to Croatian
government ministers in Zagreb on Monday.
Kostovic said that the proposal would contain dates for the
introduction of the Croatian national currency kuna, opening of
roads and other revelant matters.
Kostovic said that Klein had proposed that the number of UN
police officers in eastern Croatia should be increased.
