OSIJEK, April 30 (Hina) - The deployment of UN troops in the Danube
river area of eastern Croatia will be completed in the next five to
seven days, Philip Arnold, spokesman for the UN Transitional
Administration in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES), told a press conferece
in the eastern Croatian city of Osijek on Monday evening.
After that, UN transitional administrator Jacques Klein and
military commander Schoops would report to the UN secretary
general, and the Security Council would decide on the beginning of
the demilitarization of the area, which was to be carried out
within a period of 30 days, Arnold said.
A Jordanian battalion deployed on Monday and joined Russian,
Belgian and Ukraine troops already in the area. A Pakistani
battalion was expected to arrive soon.
Arnold announced that the Zagreb-Belgrade motorway would be
opened at Lipovac in about ten days.
