WEST MOSTAR MAYOR MEETS E.U. MONITORING MISSION CHIEF

MOSTAR, May 2 (Hina) - The mayor of Croat-held west Mostar, Mijo Brajkovic, on Thursday received the chief of the European Union Monitoring Mission for former Yugoslavia, Giorgi Franchetti Pardo, to discuss elections in Mostar which had been set by the EU administrator of the city for May 30. Pardo told reporters after the talks that "the elections in Mostar will be a very important step forward." Brajkovic said that the Croats would "fully support the elections" and that they had already set up several expert commissions for this purpose. He said that the citizens who were in the 1991 electoral register and who stayed in Mostar on election day would have the right to vote. Brajkovic dismissed the possibility of refugees from Mostar voting by post, as had been announced by the Moslem side. He added that voting by post was an option only in national elections but not in local. Brajkovic also received Spanish businessmen Enrique Vargas and Juan Anon.
