CASADO ON ELECTIONS IN MOSTAR

MOSTAR, Apr 26 (Hina) - The European Administration's first tasks in Mostar were to organise elections and to put the city's economy back on its feet, Mostar's new Administrator, Ricardo Perez Casado, told a press conference on Friday. While the Croatian side seemed to think that all the prerequisites for elections had been met, the Moslems had several objections, Casado said. These objections had to do with the organisation of political activities in the city, the right to vote of those who were not currently in Mostar and the access to the media, he said. Under the Dayton Agreement, the election in Mostar should be held by the end of May at the latest, but since they had not yet been officially called, it would not be possible to meet that deadline, Casado said. Asked whether the Administration's mandate would be extended after July 23 if the elections failed, Casado said no decision had been made on that point. (hina) jn as 261531 MET apr 96
