WASHINGTON, Jan 31 (Hina) - The UN Security Council, Wednesday
authorised the deployment of 100 military observers in eastern
Slavonia, Baranja and western Sirmium.
Resolution 1043 on this matter provides for the deployment of
the 100 observers as part of UNTAES (UN Transitional Administration
of Eastern Slavonia) for a period of six months.
The observers will oversee the demilitarization of the
remaining occupied Croatian area and will define which units and
equipment should be demilitarized.
The UN Secretary-General estimated that costs of the 6-month
deployment of the 100 military observers would be around 2.3
million US dollars.
