SARAJEVO, Jan 19 (Hina) - About 100 Islamic volunteers who fought
alongside the government army in the Bosnian war were still in a
camp in northwestern Bosnia-Herzegovina waiting to be transported
out of the country in line with the peace agreement, a spokesman
for the NATO-led peace Implementation Force (IFOR) said on Friday.
IFOR spokesman Lt. Col. Marc Rayner told a press conference in
Sarajevo that IFOR could not confirm allegations that there were
still Mujaheddin troops left in the country and who should also
leave.
A group of 16 Mujaheddin fighters left Bosnia-Herzegovina
under escort on Thursday after spending a few days in the Coralici
camp under the supervision of the Bosnian army and IFOR troops.
A minor incident occurred Thursday night when a group of
Mujaheddin surrounded a vehicle of Canadian IFOR military police
patrolling the Coralici area.
The Canadians were not directly attacked but sought assistance
after assessing that they were in danger. A platoon of British IFOR
troops and "Warrior" armoured vehicles were sent but there was no
need for them to intervene.
IFOR officials in Sarajevo described the situation in the
Coralici area as peaceful.
