SARAJEVO, 13 Dec (Hina) - The agreement on dual citizenship for
Bosnian Serbs and Montenegrins is in line with the Constitution of
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Deputy High Representative in Bosnia-
Herzegovina Hans Schumacher said on Saturday, welcoming the
agreement on dual citizenship, signed on Saturday by the Yugoslav
Foreign Minister Milan Milutinovic and the Serb member of the
Bosnian Presidency, Momcilo Krajisnik.
The agreement would have to be formally approved by the Bosnian
Presidency, Schumacher added.
The agreement is in line with the Dayton agreement and the
Constitution of Bosnia-Herzegovina and its signing is a good sign,
Schumacher told Hina.
Citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina have the right to dual citizenship.
The most important obstacle in the case of Bosnian Serbs was
Belgrade because Yugoslav laws did not provide for the possibility
of dual citizenship, Schumacher said.
Now that the agreement has been signed, I expect that the law on
citizenship of Bosnia-Herzegovina will be adopted without new
obstacles at the Parliament session expected to take place on
Monday, Schumacher said.
Up to now, Bosnian Serb representatives refused to discuss the law
on citizenship of Bosnia-Herzegovina, demanding that they be
guaranteed the possibility to have Yugoslav citizenship as well.
Schumacher said that Krajisnik acted as a member of the Bosnian
Presidency and that the same body had to approve the agreement,
which was signed in Belgrade today.
