ZAGREB, Nov 19 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of
Representatives began a session with question time on Wednesday.
Boris Kandare of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) asked the
government whether it could gain desirable confidence in the
reintegrated areas through the trust establishment national
committee if it did not respond strongly to latest terrorist acts in
the Danube region.
Interior Minister Ivan Penic replied that there were about 1,800
Transitional Police Force (TPF) members in the area, of whom 900 are
Croats, 831 Serbs and 100 members of other national minorities.
This is a large force, but if it were well managed, incidents like
the ones that occurred recently should not have happened, Penic
added.
Announcing the takeover of the TPF on December 15, Minister Penic
said that after that he could guarantee that "there will be no such
events or there will be fewer of them."
Penic said that he had had to announce his visit to the Croatian
southernmost peninsula of Prevlaka to the UN mission before going
there. We are doing our best to help complete the UN mandate in
Prevlaka, Penic stressed.
Later in the day, the House is expected to discuss a report on the
work of the Commission for Imprisoned and Missing Persons.
On Thursday, deputies will consider amendments to the Croatian
Constitution proposed by President Franjo Tudjman.
