VUKOVAR, Nov 1 (Hina) - Over 2,000 displaced persons visited
cemeteries at 11 locations of the Vukovar-Srijem County under
control of the UNTAES on Saturday, on occasion of All Saints' Day.
There had been no incidents during the visits, UNTAES and the
Croatian government Office for Displaced Persons and Refugees
said.
Displaced persons arrived in over 30 busses, under the organisation
of UNTAES and the government Office for Displaced Persons, to visit
cemeteries in Vukovar, Svinjarevci, Petrovci, Ilok, Sarengrad,
Mohovo, Stari Jankovci, Slakovci, Marinci, Cakovci and
Bogdanovci.
The remaining cemeteries in the Danubian area were labeled by
UNTAES as areas of high risk, so trips were not organised to these
locations. However, regular bus service functioned as usual.
This year's All Saints' Day happened to collide with a Serb Orthodox
religious holiday. Although displaced Croats and local Serbs had
met at the cemeteries, the visits were peaceful and dignified.
UNTAES's public relations office said in a statement on Saturday
that about 7,000 displaced persons had visited 42 cemeteries in the
whole area under the UN Transitional Administration on Saturday.
