ZAGREB, Oct 30 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Thursday adopted
a report on the situation in the liberated areas and the Croatian
Danube region.
It was assessed that by undertaking numerous steps through relevant
ministries in the last two months, the government had contributed
to the normalisation of life in the formerly Serb-occupied areas
and the successful completion of the peaceful reintegration of the
UN-administered Croatian Danube river region.
It was concluded that the government would prepare such a report
every three months.
During a discussion attention was drawn to some problems, such
unorganised returns of refugees, a lack of housing in those areas,
particularly for skilled personnel, and problems related to mine
clearance.
Summing up the discussion, Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa said that
all the relevant ministries could be satisfied with what had been
done.
The number of criminal offences has been reduced, housing
reconstruction continues and economic activities have been
encouraged, he added.
Matesa stressed that the government would provide special care for
Croats who had arrived in Croatia from other areas of former
Yugoslavia, particularly from Serb-held Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The government set November 30 as a date of elections for the
Primorsko-Goranska County Assembly, which was dissolved after a
half of the councillors had resigned. On the same day elections
would also be held for 13 town and municipal councils which had not
yet been constituted.
The government decided to publish the agreement between Croatia and
Slovenia abolishing visa requirements.
