UNTAES TO SIMPLIFY DANUBE REGION ENTRY PROCEDURE ON 15 NOV

VUKOVAR, Oct 20 (Hina) - Persons entering the Danube river region of eastern Croatia on foot will as of 3 November have to use the Bilje, Nemetin-Sarvas and Mirkovci-Vinkovci check-points, where members of the Transitional Police will register their name, citizen identification number, address and destination, a UNTAES statement said on Monday. Persons entering the said region by bus or train will give their data to respective drivers, who will then forward it to transitional policemen. Vehicles will from 3 to 15 November be able to enter the Croatian Danube region from 06.00 to 22.00 hours, using blue cards, and not from 07.00 to 19.00 hours as until now. Other check-points to be available from 3 November are in Novi Seles, Divos, Gabos, Jarmina, Ostrovo, Marinci, Ceric, and Nijemci. Blue cards will become invalid starting 15 November. Vehicles will be free to enter the Croatian Danube region showing filled in forms which, according to the UNTAES statement, will be available at various places to be made known in due time. Persons who fail to comply with the procedure will be denied entry to the UN-administered part of the Croatian Danube region, the statement further said. Recent media reports stating to a temporary revocation of vehicle passes were incorrect, UNTAES said. The media reported a statement by U.S. Ambassador to Croatia Peter Galbraith who, while visiting Vinkovci and Vukovar on 18 October, said passes for vehicles in the Croatian Danube region would be revoked starting 3 November.
