VUKOVAR, Sept 15 (Hina) - The joint council of (Serb) municipalities
of eastern Slavonia, Baranja and western Sirmium, or ZVO and the
Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) requested the presence of
the United Nations and the international community in the Croatian
Danube river area after the completion of the UNTAES mandate.
The ZVO and SDSS sent a letter on Monday to the UN Secretary-
General, the UN Transitional Administrator in the Croatian Danube
river area, William Walker, Contact-Group member-states'
ambassadors, the Council of Europe and the OSCE.
The ZVO information office said that the satisfaction with the
current results of the peaceful reintegration was expressed in the
letter but Serb representatives pointed out to "failure to fulfil
commitments under the UNSC Resolution 1120 and the Croatian
Government's Letter of Intent."
They wrote that the Erdut agreement was not also implemented
completely and consistently, and added that "the presence of the
international community and of the UN is necessary in the Croatian
Danube river area in the post-UNTAES period."
