TRAVNIK, Aug 31 (Hina) - "Travnik is a town in which the Bosnian
Federation project either passes or fails," the Travnik municipal
leadership and municipal branch of the Croatian Democratic Union
(HDZ) said in a letter forwarded on Sunday to the UN High
Representative Carlos Westendorp, chairman of the Bosnian
Presidency, Alija Izetbegovic, Presidency member Kresimir Zubak, and
other Bosnian Federation, Central Bosnian Canton officials and
international community representatives.
The letter was forwarded after two Bosnian Croats were killed
in their home near Turbet, Travnik municipality, Saturday night.
"If a Croat returnee and his family can uninterruptedly and
without any responsibility be attacked and killed in his own home
only because he is a Croat, then the most basic conditions for
Travnik to be pronounced an 'open town' such as the Bosniac
authorities had done on Thursday, 28 August, have not been created,"
the letter said.
This was only one in a line of killings of Croat returnees to
Travnik, the letter said, adding that the international community
had to direct its attention more harshly to the town as the crucial
test of the setting up or the failure of the Bosnian Federation
project.
