PALE, Aug 13 (Hina) - UN and NATO-led SFOR forces in Bosnia-
Herzegovina delivered to Bosnian Serb senior officials a draft agreement on
reorganisation of Bosnian Serb police and they are expecting the beginning
of negotiations on this matter as soon as possible.
A UN spokesman, Alexander Ivanko, said at a news conference at
Pale (outside Sarajevo) on Wednesday that SFOR commander, General
Shinseki, the UN mission's head Kai Eide, and international police
commissioner Manfred Seitner, talked about the issue with Biljana Plavsic,
the Serb republic's president, in Banja Luka.
Ivanko said that international representatives would not accept the
current Bosnian Serb interior Dragan Kijac's participation in the negotiations
on the police restructuring.
Kijac persistently rejected talks on the reorganisation of police, and
that's why the international community severed all contacts with him, and
Biljana Plavsic suspended him. But, he remains at the post of interior
minister, and is believed to enjoy the support of a former Serb leader and a
war criminal, Radovan Karadzic.
Special police forces should be certified by international police by
August 31.
An SFOR spokesman, John Blakeley, said that NATO troops in
Bosnia-Herzegovina continued inspecting headquarters of special police
units in both Bosnian entities, searching for banned weaponry or military
equipment.
Blakeley announced that such inspections would be conducted at
Pale this week.
Ivanko said on Wednesday that the international police possessed
evidence that Bosnian Serb special police units provided security and escort
for Karadzic.
