SFOR BEGINS INSPECTION OF BH SPECIAL POLICE HEADQUARTERS

SARAJEVO, Aug 10 (Hina) - Members of the Stabilization Force in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday began with the inspection of headquarters of special police units in Bosnia's two entities (Croat-Muslim, Serb), SFOR's spokesman in Sarajevo John Blakeley said on Saturday. During the day, SFOR members visited many special police headquarters to, as Blakeley said, inform commanders about the new measures stipulated by the commander of NATO in BH, General Eric Shinseki. As Shinseki and Kai Eide, the head of the UN mission in BH, informed the members of the BH Presidency and the presidents of the BH (Croat-Moslem) Federation and Republika Srpska, all special police units in BH which failed to pass a stipulated procedure and obtain special permission on the part of the International Police Task Force would after 31 August be considered illegal and dissolved. After the expiry of the said deadline, SFOR will treat such units as paramilitary, meaning that it will be authorized to disarm them. Blakeley confirmed that today SFOR officials visited the base of a Serb entity anti-terrorist brigade in Rakovicke Bare near Banja Luka in northern BH. Neither in this nor in any other case did any incident take place, the SFOR spokesman pointed out.
