SARAJEVO, June 30 (Hina) - The Office of Bosnian Serb President Biljana
Plavsic confirmed on Monday evening that Serbian police had arrested
Plavsic in Belgrade on Sunday and deported her to Bosnia-Herzegovina,
Serb-run Pale radio said.
It was not clear why Plavsic had been arrested and whether her
detention was connected with her conflict with Interior Minister Dragan
Kijac. Two days ago, Plavsic passed a decree on replacing Kijac, a
loyalist to Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic.
The Serb member of Bosnia-Herzegovina's collective presidency,
Momcilo Krajisnik, was quoted by Pale radio as saying that the Plavsic-
Kijac conflict transcended their personal differences and "is now
threatening the interests of the state."
Against a background of growing tensions in Serb-controlled Bosnia-
Herzegovina, the Bosnian Serb army command issued a statement on Monday
criticising the NATO-led Stabilisation Force (SFOR) for its increased
presence in the Serb entity.
The Serb army command said that SFOR stepped up patrols on all
roads from the northern town of Banja Luka to Pale and that they were
stopping and searching almost all vehicles, which "upsets and provokes
the citizens."
