BILJE, June 5 (Hina) - UN Special Rapporteur for human rights Elisabeth
Rehn said in Bilje on Thursday she was optimistic concerning the return
of displaced Croatians and Serbs in Croatia.
I am optimistic, perhaps without reason, Rehn said after talks with
representatives of the Croatian Association of Displaced Persons and the
Association of Displaced Persons from Beli Manastir.
Tensions among the displaced definitely existed, but apparently
there also existed the possibility of return both for Croatian and Serb
displaced persons, Rehn said.
She appealed to the representatives of the two associations to
cooperate. Together, you have more chances, Rehn told them.
She stressed that UN would pay special attention to displaced
persons.
Rehn today also had a meeting in Vukovar with UN's transitional
administrator for eastern Slavonia, Jacques Klein.
