SARAJEVO, Jan 14 (Hina) - The donors' conference on the postwar
reconstruction of Bosnia-Herzegovina held in Brussels earlier this
month has achieved substantial results, the heads of the World Bank
and European Union missions to Sarajevo, Rory O'Sullivan and Donato
Chiarini, said on Tuesday.
Members of the Bosnian delegation had been very cooperative,
which left donors with an impression that investments should be
made in Bosnia-Herzegovina, they said.
Chiarini said that besides reconstruction projects attention
should be paid to creating conditions for foreign investment,
including the carrying out of macroeconomic reforms and the
establishment of a central bank.
O'Sullivan said that donors had shown a desire to invest in
both entities of Bosnia-Herzegovina but that they would most likely
continue to insist on the fulfilment of certain political
conditions, primarily on the full implementation of the Dayton
peace agreement.
In 1997 donor countries should ensure 1.4 billion US dollars
for reconstruction and concrete contributions were expected to be
made at the next donors' conference due to take place in March.
