SARAJEVO, 15 Jan (Hina) - The European Union Monitor Mission
for the former Yugoslavia area directed its attention to the
situation in eastern Slavonia, especially in view of the
forthcoming elections, as well as to controlling the situation
in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BH), EU monitors' new leader, Dutch
Ambassador Daan Everts, said in Sarajevo on Wednesday,
reminding that the Hungarian, Bulgarian and Macedonian monitor
teams had been withdrawn.
Everts was appointed to his office after the Netherlands
took chairmanship of the EU and will most probably hold it
until the end of the year, since Luxembourg representatives,
who should coordinate with the EU's work after six months,
would, as Everts said, not be able to fulfill all the
necessary obligations.
The main seat of the European monitors would be
transferred from the Croatian capital of Zagreb to the Bosnian
one of Sarajevo, said Everts, adding that the monitor mission
in BH would include 20 teams.
The EU monitors would continue to act completely
neutrally, the Dutch Ambassador pointed out, explaining that
their basic aim remained to keep the EU member-states informed
about the situation in BH.
