SARAJEVO, Jan 6 (Hina) - Bosnia-Herzegovina's three-man
Presidency's member Alija Izetbegovic and the Ministerial Council's
co-chairman, Haris Silajdzic, on Tuesday called on Serbs from
Sarajevo districts, who had left them when the districts had been
returned to the (Croat-Moslem) Bosnian Federation and settled the
Sava river town of Brcko, to come back to their homes.
Sarajevo television broadcast this evening that Izetbegovic
and Silajdzic had met mayors of municipalities within Sarajevo
Canton to agree on measures which should be taken in order that
Serbs return soon.
A statement issued after the meeting said the decision was
prompted "by a desire to contribute to a just solution of the Brcko
issue."
Serbs who decide to return are guaranteed the right to their
real estate, while local authorities have committed themselves to
finding flats and houses for people who are temporarily living in
(Serb) houses. International aid will be requested for such a move.
On Tuesday Silajdzic talked with the international senior
peace administrator in Bosnia, Carl Bildt, about difficulties as
regards arbitration to solve the Brcko issue.
After the Sarajevo talks Bildt told reporters he was worried
about a possible new wave of Serbs who would leave eastern
Slavonia, toward the northern Bosnian strategic town.
"This might have negative political consequences," Bildt
foresaw. He added that he would use his influence with authorities
of the Republic of Croatia so as to warn that it was necessary "to
create conditions for Serbs to remain in eastern Slavonia."
