Croatia was forced to import food, although it had great
agricultural potential which could enable the country to export
food, Dominikovic said. Croatia exported its agricultural products
to the United States and it expected the agricultural cooperation
with the U.S.A. to increase, he added.
Galbraith expressed regret at the fact that Croatia had to
import agricultural products, adding he hoped Croatia would import
them from the U.S.A.
During 1995, the U.S.A. started implementing the Cochran
Fellowship Program. Within the program, several Croatian experts
visited the States and continued their education there, Galbraith
said.
On Monday, Galbraith presented Assistant Agriculture and
Forestry Minister Vlado Bicanic with an international award of the
U.S. Government Department of Agriculture.
In 1997, 12 awards were presented to American citizens and to
only one non-American - Mr Bicanic, Galbraith said.
