MOSTAR, Jan 11 (Hina) - Bosnian Croat political leaders in the
Usora region of northern Bosnia sent an open letter to President
Alija Izetbegovic on Saturday drawing his attention to the
situation in the region.
The municipal committee of the Croatian Democratic Union
(HDZ) party said that the latest in a series of "grave incidents"
in the area was a decision by the Moslem authorities in Tesanj to
ban Croatian-language classes for Croat children in the villages
of Zabljak and Tesanjka.
Reminding Izetbegovic of his statements advocating a
multiethnic, multiconfessional and multicultural Bosnia-
Herzegovina, the letter, carried by the Bosnian Croat news agency
Habena, urged him to rein in extremists in the area under Bosnian
army control.
Usora is a predominantly Croat enclave about 150 km north of
Sarajevo where there were no clashes between the Croats and
Moslems during the war.
