VUKOVAR, Oct 15 (Hina) - The all-Croatian sports competition of
Homeland War invalids began in Vukovar on Thursday.
The competition gathers 550 athletes-invalids and is being held for
the sixth time under the auspices of the Croatian President and the
Croatian Olympics Commitee.
In his opening speech, head of the President's military cabinet
Major General Darko Grdic called on the invalids to contribute to
Croatia's development in peace-time as they had done during the
recent war.
"May this competition be a call to all Croats from Vukovar to return
to Vukovar", Grdic pointed out.
Also in attendance were deputy premier Ljerka Mintas-Hodak,
defence minister assistant for civil issues Major General Marinko
Kresic, Croatian army chief-of-staff envoy Major General Mirko
Norac, deputy interior minister Zlatko Gledec, and the Croatian
President's advisor for interior affairs Ivic Pasalic.
