ZAGREB, Oct 15 (Hina) - Another Romanian citizen who illegally
entered Croatia with the aim to go further west self-injured
himself to avoid deportation.
Twenty-two-year-old Ion Schiopu Lescu on Thursday drove a nail into
his forehead. He was later taken from a Zagreb shelter to a hospital
where he talked to the Romanian consul, the Zagreb police
reported.
Lescu said he had self-injured himself solely out of solidarity
with three other Romanians who inflicted the same injuries to
themselves on October 12.
Mihail Gologan, 22, Ionel Alupoaiei 20, and Petric Vranceanu, 28,
drove nails into their foreheads in an attempt to avoid being
deported from Croatia to Romania.
Gologan and Alupoaiei suffered light injuries and left Croatia,
while Vranceanu, the only one who broke his frontal bone, is still
in hospital, the police reported.
Some young men from the Zagreb shelter said they believe that by
self-injuring themselves they can escape from hospital and head
west.
