ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - The Independent Union of Science and Higher
Education on Wednesday expressed its "horror" at the Croatian
government's decision to pay out allowances to strikebreakers.
The government decided to pay teachers who did not participate in a
strike held just prior to the end of the last school year.
The Union stated it would initiate procedures to evaluate the
constitutionality and legality of the government's decision.
"The decision was obviously brought with the intention of
destimulating strikers and not to pay for work completed, which is
corroborated by the fact that the government will also pay all those
employees in schools which did not strike", said a press release
issued by the Union and which was signed by Union Main Committee
chairman Vilim Ribic and secretary Kresimir Rozman.
