TRAVNIK, Oct 4 (Hina/Habena/BHP) - The completion of the first
phase of an international reconstruction and refugee return
project was officially marked in the central Bosnian town of
Travnik on Sunday.
The project, conducted by the United Nations Development Program
(UNDP) and European Union, included the reconstruction of 520 homes
in 48 villages.
Thanks to the project, about 2,250 people will be able to return to
their homes and 336 families will move into their pre-war homes, the
Bosnian Croat news agency Habena said citing a BiH Press report.
The extensive project is jointly sponsored by the EU with US$4.7
million and UNDP with US$800,000.
The next reconstruction programme, which is to include another 400
houses in Travnik and Vitez, will be finished in September next year
and cost six million ECU.
Central Bosnia Canton Prefect Adnan Terzic, Travnik Mayor Besim
Halilovic, European Commission director Herman de Lange and the
head of the UNDP regional office for Europe and the Commonwealth of
Independent States (RBEC), Anton Kruidernik, today visited a
returnee family in the settlement of Nula.
