SPLIT, Oct 4 (Hina) - Journalists gathered to cover the Pope's visit
to Znjan, near Split today were at about midday handed a written
apology.
The apology noted "We publicly apologise to all journalists,
reporters and cameramen who were not able to enter Znjan on time and
who were prevented from conducting their professional duties. The
Holy Father's arrival to Split attracted a massive number of the
faithful which required the highest level of security and we ask for
your sincere understanding".
The apology, which was also written in English, was not signed
however, journalists were told that the apology forwarded to the
Split press centre was organised by the Croatian foreign affairs
ministry.
About one hundred domestic and foreign journalists, photographers
who had proper accreditation were not able to enter the area
foreseen for them at Znjan today.
They were prevented from entering the ceremonial area by police.
After a short period of trying convince the police unsuccessfully,
the journalists brought down the barricades and forcefully entered
Znjan.
