ERDUT, Oct 2 (Hina) - About 350 Croats from the northern Yugoslav
province of Vojvodina entered Croatia over the Erdut-Bogojevo
border crossing to participate in Saturday's holy celebrations
with Pope John Paul II in Marija Bistrica, a shrine north of
Zagreb.
Accompanying the faithful in the six buses were 15 priests and 10
nuns.
The Catholics from Vojvodina could not hide their happiness, for
this was their first time in Croatia since the war, they said.
Subotica priest Andrija Kopilovic organised the pilgrimage. He
said that the faithful from Subotica had regularly taken part in
pilgrimages to Marija Bistrica before the aggression on Croatia and
they were happy that Marija Bistrica would be the place of Cardinal
Alojzije Stepinac's beatification.
Before heading to Marija Bistrica, the Vojvodina Croats visited
Aljmas and lit candles in front of the demolished Church of Our Lady
of the Sanctuary.
