Prosecutorial authorities say summoning for questioning can't be matter of agreement

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, Sept 12 (Hina) - The Office of the Chief State Prosecutor (DORH) has said in a press release that calling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) official Ivan Jarnjak in for questioning "is not and cannot be a matter od agreement".

Following media inquiries whether Jarnjak's statement that he had agreed with Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic to give a statement at the DORH, the DORH said on Monday that Jarnjak's being called in for questioning "is not and cannot be a matter of agreement".

Under the legislation on criminal proceedings and depending on the situation in an individual criminal case, the relevant state prosecutor decides who he will be summoned for questioning and when, as well as what their status will be. This also applies to Ivan Jarnjak, the DORH reported on its web site.

The HDZ vice-president Jarnjak on Monday rejected media reports that related him to the case of the party's slush funds as "lies and untruths", announcing that he would take legal action against former HDZ accountant Branka Pavosevic who made allegations against him.

Jarnjak said that this morning he had called Chief State Prosecutor Bajic to discuss the matter with him, adding that he would make a formal statement to the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor about all the circumstances mentioned by the media.
