ZAGREB, Sept 28 (Hina) - In the investigation proceedings against
Dinko Sakic, a former commander of a concentration camp at
Jasenovac, the president of the Jewish Community of Zagreb, Ognjen
Kraus, testified as a witness on Monday at the County Court in
Zagreb.
According to inofficial sources, Kraus presented to the court a
book on holocaust issued by the Jewish Community, as well as a list
of inmates who had been receiving packages sent by the Jewish
Community in Zagreb within the period from 1941 - 1945.
The book on holocaust describes the suffering of Jews in
concentration camps across the Independent State of Croatia (NDH
1941 - 1945). It is based on a list of Jews and their families from
the Zagreb area who were required by the Law on Jews in effect from
1941 to supply their personal data. After the breakdown of the NDH
in 1945, the names of those survived and those who had not were in
handwriting added to the list.
From the postcards Jewish camp inmates had sent to the Jewish
Community a list of those receiving the packages had been made,
while the names of those who had stopped receiving packages had been
crossed out under the assumption that they had been killed.
Kraus said that he had sent letters to the Jewish Communities of
Sarajevo and Belgrade for the purpose of finding persons who could
testify against Sakic.
According to the same sources, Kraus had been contacted by several
persons from Belgrade. The Jewish Community will submit a request
to the State Attorney's Office, suggesting that those people
testify in the Sakic case.
