CELEBRATIONS MARKING POREC BASILICA'S INCLUSION ON UNESCO LIST END

( Editorial: --> 9463 ) POREC, Sept 10 (Hina) - An international gathering entitled "The Euphrasius Basilica in Porec" held on Thursday marked the end of a three-day celebration of the inclusion of the renown cathedral on UNESCO's list for the protection of world cultural heritage. In addition to the formal granting of the UNESCO Charter to the City of Porec and the scientific gathering about the Euphrasius Basilica, a round table discussion was held on tourism and culture. Also several exhibitions presented several very valuable publications about Porec and Croatia's western coastal region of Istria. The recently ended scientific gathering attracted experts in archaeology, conservation and art historians which offered an insight into new discoveries about the complexity and wealth of this unique early Christian monument which dates back to the 6th Century. The gathering was held in the Domicile Museum of Porec and all the exhibitions will be presented in a special catalogue. (Hina) sp jn /mbr 101545 MET sep 98
