VUKOVAR, Aug 5 (Hina) - Croatia's Homeland Gratitude Day was
commemorated on Wednesday in the eastern city of Vukovar where
wreaths were laid and candles lit in memory of all killed and
missing Croatian citizens during the Homeland War.
At the Cross of Victims for a Free Croatia, where the Vuka River
meets the Danube, wreaths were laid this morning on behalf of the
City of Vukovar by Deputy Mayor Stipo Seremet and the Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ) by Vukovar HDZ branch president Petar
Mlinaric.
Wreaths were also laid at the Main Cross in the Avenue of Croatian
Defenders at Vukovar's New Cemetery.
A large number of Croatian citizens from other parts of Croatia also
visited Vukovar today.
They arrived in several buses with Croatian flags, wanting to spend
Homeland Gratitude Day in the city which symbolised Croatia's
resistance to Serbian aggression.
