MOSTAR, July 29 (Hina) - More than five Muslim-owned houses in
Pjesevac Kula near Stolac, southern Bosnia, were mined last night,
a representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees said on Wednesday.
Seventy Muslims returned to Pjesevac Kula today.
There is a clear link between these criminal activities and the
return of the displaced, the head of UNHCR's regional office for
south Bosnia Neil Wright said in Mostar.
The resumption of attacks on returnees cannot be justified without
the results of police investigation, he added.
According to UN's spokeswoman in Mostar Kelly Moore, 37 incidents
occurred in Croat-controlled Stolac since March 26, including 15
explosions which caused damage to 32 houses owned by Muslim
returnees, 15 arsons, stone-throwing and intimidation.
The UN expects the police to submit investigation results by August
10, Moore said. In the contrary she will request changes in the
Stolac police.
She also expressed disappointment with the fact that the cantonal
Interior Ministry had not undertaken stronger measures.
