ZAGREB, July 3 (Hina) - The Croatian government's decision to buy
out 200,000 tonnes of market surplus of wheat from individual
family producers at a guaranteed price and with a 15-day deadline
will be implemented consistently, Economy Minister Nenad Porges
told a news conference on Friday.
The request of eastern Croatian peasants that the state buy out the
whole wheat surplus for the guaranteed price is unrealistic because
it would mean an "attack" on the state budget, Porges said.
He stressed that his Ministry had not requested statements on the
ownership of land, but would continue to request that the bought-
off wheat be produced on family-owned farms.
Speaking about criticism regarding the price of wheat, Porges
recalled that the guaranteed price of US17 cents per kilo had been
established last autumn, and there had been sufficient time to
estimate whether the reaping was worth-while.
The market price of wheat is about US12 to 14 cents, he stressed.
