ZAGREB, June 23 (Hina) - The Independent Union of Science and Higher
Education of Croatia on Tuesday requested a 30 per cent increase in
salaries of tenured university lecturers and additional resources
for scientific research.
They also asked that the coefficients for the calculation of
salaries of employees in science and higher education be brought
into line with coefficients in other public services.
Referring to reports by Finance Minister Borislav Skegro that the
budget is being splendidly filled from Value Added Tax and that
there is enough funds for meeting the union's requests, the science
union demanded that the salaries be raised from 1 July. It also
asked for waiving of VAT on books.
