ZAGREB, June 5 (Hina) - Two teachers' unions, which organised a one
-day strike in schools on Thursday, on Friday expressed
satisfaction with the turnout of strikers.
About 20,000 employees in primary and 13,120 in secondary schools
went on strike, leaders of the Croatian Teachers' Union (SHU) and
the Independent Union of Secondary School Employees (NSZSS) said at
a press conference on Friday.
The two unions requested a pay rise and the payment of holiday cash
grants.
Even after the strike started, the Government failed to react to the
union's request for the solution of a collective work dispute, the
unions said.
The Education Ministry on Wednesday held talks with union
representatives, saying it would send its opinion on their requests
to all six teachers' unions by Friday afternoon.
