SARAJEVO, June 18 (Hina) - Officials of the International Police
Task Force (IPTF) have begun negotiations with representatives of
Bosnian Serb entity authorities to initiate procedures for
accepting non-Serb policemen in the Bosnian Serb Interior
Ministry, the spokesman of the UN mission in Bosnia Aleksandar
Ivanko said in Sarajevo Thursday.
IPTF deputy commander Marc Crooker discussed the matter with
Bosnian Serb Interior Minister Milorad Stankovic Tuesday, without
results.
In line with decisions the Peace Implementation Council reached in
Luxembourg recently, the Bosnian Serb Interior Ministry must
accept at least 500 policemen of Muslim and Croat nationality by
August 31. The ultimate goal is to adjust the Bosnian Serb police
structure with results from the 1991 census by year's end.
