ONLY WESTENDORP'S TRAFFIC PERMITS ARE VALID IN BOSNIA

Autor:
( Editorial: --> 7498 ) SARAJEVO, May 29 (Hina) - The High Representative for the implementation of the Dayton peace agreement Carlos Westendorp again rejected every possibility for extending deadlines for the replacement of registration plates for vehicles in Bosnia- Herzegovina. In a letter which he again sent to the governments of European nations on Thursday, Westendorp requested that not one vehicle from Bosnia-Herzegovina without new registration plates and uniform traffic permits be allowed across their borders. The spokesman for Westendorp's Office Rida Attarashani said on Friday in Sarajevo that a separate letter was sent to interior ministers of the two Bosnian entities and canton ministers of the Croat-Muslim Federation in which they are warned that any attempt to give out traffic permits different from those confirmed by the international community would be illegal. According to Attarahani, this warning especially relates to the cantons with a Croat majority where traffic permits different from the ones earlier adopted have been given out. The UN mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina spokesman Aleksandar Ivanko said today that all Bosnian citizens who as of next week wish to travel abroad in their vehicles can say goodbye to that plan if they fail to travel with new registration plates and uniform traffic permits which include the Cyrillic script. According to Ivanko, the command of the International Police Task Force (IPTF) has informed all border police stations in Bosnia- Herzegovina of the new regime for crossing the state border. Police who fail to follow these instructions and let vehicles without adequate documents across the border will incur the consequences because IPTF will cancel their work agreement which will also result in their automatic dismissal from duty.
