( Editorial: --> 4367 ) VUKOVAR, May 16 (Hina) - The remains of 46 victims of the Serbian aggression on Croatia were buried at the New Cemetery in the eastern town of Vukovar on Saturday. "No other town in the world sees dozens of its residents off to their final rest every Saturday", Vukovar Mayor Vladimir Stengl said. Today the remains of 22 Croatian soldiers, two policemen, eight members of Civil Defence and 11 civilians were buried. The remains of two defenders and one civilian were transferred to other Croatian counties, according to the victims families' wishes. Among those buried today are two urns containing the ashes of two defenders and the remains of one civilian exhumed last year from the mass grave at Ovcara, near Vukovar. These remains were only recently identified in Zagreb. Also attending the funeral were representatives of the Croatian National Parliament, the Vukovar-Srijem County, the Croatian Army, the Ministries of defence, of the interior and of Homeland War defenders. "We must not forget that in fighting the Serbian aggressor we were alone, while the world shut its eyes before Croatian reality. May God help us forgive but never forget", said Croatian Assistant Interior Minister Tomislav Karaman. On behalf of the Ministry of Defence, the head of the Djakovo army district, Zdenko Culjak, told the families of the victims to keep their dignity and direct their lives towards the future and the next generation. Since April 28, the remains of 344 persons have been exhumed from the New Cemetery in Vukovar. The remains of 171 have been identified. (hina) ha jn 161554 MET may 98
