SARAJEVO, March 13 (Hina) - Telecommunications between the two
entities of Bosnia-Herzegovina, suspended in 1992, were restored
on Friday.
The project of restoration of telecommunications was financed by
the European Union. Restoring the telephone lines, which are still
of a limited capacity, cost US$5 million.
The project commenced following an agreement between
representatives of the three interested sides, which was mediated
by US diplomat Richard Holbrooke last year.
Back then it was agreed that the country code, 387, would remain
valid for the whole of Bosnia-Herzegovina but within the country
there would exist three codes - one for Sarajevo, another for other
parts of the Croat-Muslim Federation and a third for the Bosnian
Serb entity.
Equipment for connecting telecommunications between the
Federation and Republika Srpska was donated by the French company
Alcatel.
