ZAGREB, Mar 2 (Hina) - The University of Zagreb on Monday awarded
its charter and memorial plaque to Gabor Bagi, who served as the
Republic of Hungary's first ambassador to Croatia from the time of
the Republic of Croatia's international recognition in 1992 until
1995.
Bagi was awarded the recognition, for his many years of successful
cooperation and promotion of cultural and scientific links between
Croatia and Hungary, by the University of Zagreb Senate on
University Day 1996.
On Monday Bagi received the awards in the University Rectorate from
Professor Dr. Marijan Sunjic, who was the university rector at the
time of Bagi's diplomatic mandate in Croatia.
Sunjic emphasised that it was to Bagi's exceptional credit that
progress had been made in cultural and scientific links between the
Hungarian and Croatian peoples.
The former rector especially emphasised the importance of the
establishment of the Department of Hungarian Studies at Zagreb's
Faculty of Arts.
