SARAJEVO, Feb 9 (Hina) - The U.N. Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina
believes that the apprehension of a Bosnian Serb suspected of
killing a Bosnian Government member in 1993, has been carried out
with unallowed use of force and under suspicious circumstances, UN
spokesman in Sarajevo Alexander Ivanko said on Monday.
The circumstances of the arrest of Bosnian Serb Goran Vasic are
being investigated, Ivanko told reporters in Sarajevo.
The head of the U.N. Mission in Bosnia Elizabeth Rehn has joined in
shedding some light on the case and there is evidence that Vasic was
beaten up during the arrest, he added.
It has also been established that persons who arrested Vasic were
carrying long-barrel weapons, the use of which is prohibited with
civil police, Ivanko said.
Vasic was arrested three days ago in Dobrinja, Sarajevo, on the
Federation territory.
The Sarajevo Canton Interior Ministry stated that Vasic was
suspected of killing Hakija Turajlic, vice premier of the war-time
Bosnian government in 1993.
Turajlic was shot with seven bullets while he was in a U.N. armoured
personnel carrier and under the protection of the then U.N.
Protection Force (UNPROFOR).
Ivanko could not confirm claims saying that Vasic was not arrested
by regular Sarajevo police, but by the members of the Agency for
Investigation and Documentation (AID), a Bosniak (Muslim) secret
service which is not under control of legal bodies of authority.
