SARAJEVO, Feb 6 (Hina) - Bosnia-Herzegovina should have one uniform
passport, a spokeswoman for the international High Representative
for the implementation of the Dayton peace agreement, Aisling
Burne, said Friday.
The solution on the appearance of the passport adopted by the
Bosnian Parliament, different for Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks,
further deepens ethnic divides, Burne said on behalf of Carlos
Westendorp.
According to that solution, Bosnian passports would be printed in
different languages and have the insignia of either Bosnian
entity.
Burne said the High Representative hoped parliament members would
realise that it is logical for Bosnia-Herzegovina to have a uniform
passport.
The spokeswoman was unable to officially confirm what the new
passport would look like. Consultations are still underway, she
said.
According to Sarajevo daily Oslobodjenje of Thursday, the cover of
the new passport will have 'Bosnia-Herzegovina' written in Latin,
or Cyrillic script and in English, the new flag in the middle, and
'putovnica' (in Latin script), 'pasos' (in Cyrillic) and
'passport' printed near the bottom.
After the decision on the appearance of Bosnia's new flag was made
public, the flag was hoisted on the building of the Bosnian
Presidency in Sarajevo Friday morning. However, the old flag of the
Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina is still beside the new one,
although without legal foundation.
For the time being, only officials of the Party of Democratic
Action, including Bosnian Presidency chairman Alija Izetbegovic,
have suggested that the old flag be proclaimed the official flag of
the Bosniak people.
