ZAGREB, Feb 2 (Hina) - In its latest issue of 2 February 1998, the
Feral Tribune weekly published an apology to the Croatian
President's chief of staff Hrvoje Sarinic "due to an untruthful
statement which is the result of a serious journalistic and
editorial error".
According to the apology, an untruthful statement was made in an
article headlined "Magisterial Robbery of the Century - Sarinic's Y
File", which appeared in the 29 September 1997 issue. The statement
said that Sarinic had received a commission from Bouygues, a French
company, enabling them allocation of a concession.
The article linked the allocation of a concession for the building
of the "Istrian Y" road, on the northern Adriatic peninsula of
Istria, with the alleged commission.
A day after the appearance of the article, Sarinic strongly refuted
the weekly's claims as serious slander, announcing he would seek
legal protection against such brusque attacks.
