ZAGREB, 2 Feb (Hina) - Eight Croatian unions which operate within
public companies have sent a report to the International Labor
Organization (ILO) because of the Croatian Government's Resolution
on Obligatory Instructions for Implementation of the Wages Policy
in 1998, a statement from the unions said on Monday.
The unions believe that by introducing the Resolution the
Government had practically frozen wages in public companies hence
violating ILO's Convention 98.
The unions had already requested the Croatian Constitutional Court
to assess whether the Government decision is in line with the
Constitution.
The report to ILO was sent by unions from the Croatian Post and
Telecommunications (HPT), Croatian Power Industry (HEP), Croatian
Rail (HZ), Printing and Publishing Union, Forestry Union and the
Croatian Confederation of Free Unions '90.
In September 1997 the Association of Indepenedent Unions of Croatia
reported the Croatian Government to ILO because of Article 38 of the
Regulation on Unions which temporarily nationalised union
property.
