EDUCATION EMPLOYEES PROTEST IN FRONT OF GOVT BUILDING

( Editorial: --> 6399 ) ZAGREB, Jan 22 (Hina) - Thirty-five members of the Croatian Teachers Trade Union (SHU) Thursday protested in front of the building of the Croatian Government demanding higher salaries in the education system. They were joined by about 100 commissioners of the Independent Trade Union of Croatian High School Employees. After an unsuccessful attempt to meet with Government officials, SHU president Dalimir Kuba said "a season of unrest in elementary school education has opened". "The Government will be responsible for what follows", said Kuba. The SHU demands that the Government adopt a UNESCO Recommendation which, they say, is the "foundation for passing a new education policy". Among European countries, only Croatia has not adopted the Recommendation, the SHU adds. The SHU also demands compliance with the Collective Work Agreement for High School Employees.
