ZAGREB, Dec 9 (Hina) - The average net salary in Croatia in October
amounted to 2,935 kuna (around DM730), which is a nominal increase
of 12.9 and a real increase of 8.9 per cent compared to the year
before, the Payment Operations Bureau (ZAP) reported.
In the period between January and October this year, the average net
salary amounted to 2,887 kuna, which is a nominal increase of 15.6
per cent and a real increase of 11.7 per cent.
A total of 27.2 billion kuna (some DM6.8 billion) was paid for
salaries in the first ten months of 1999, which is 7.5 per cent more
than in the same period last year.
According to the Bureau, the complex situation in the economy and
difficulties in the payment and influx of liquid funds have
affected the payment of salaries in some firms. Some employees have
not received salaries for one or more months and there are employers
paying salaries which are lower than the protected lowest gross
amount of 1,500 kuna, set by the collective agreement on the lowest
salary. Despite these problems, the trend of nominal and real
growth of salaries has continued this year, the Bureau reports.
